Learning management systems and its applications in academic libraries

Abstract

The presentation will provide an overview of learning management systems (LMS) and their general uses, functions and features. Discussion will include the benefits of using LMS, special characteristics to consider, and prevailing LMS in the market. The presentation will also offer examples of learning environments and scenarios wherein learning management systems can serve as a convenient tool in accomplishing instruction and other related tasks in the academic library. The concept of social learning and massive open online courses in relation to utilizing LMSs will also be introduced.
